What's it about!

Chari (NTR) is an assistant poojari to Bhattacharya (Brahmanandam) and performing poojas on religious activities is their livelihood. Thinking of marrying the beautiful Chandralekha (Nayanatara), who lost her father, Bhattacharya acts as savior to her family but she loves Chari eventually. On other hand, there is Narsinha or Narsi in short (NTR) who steals money from gangsters and hands over it to a police officer (Shayaji Shinde) who promised Narsi a post in police system. Narsi also romances with this police officer's daughter (Sheela). As things progressing with comic scenes, suddenly it is revealed that a Don (Mahesh Manjrekar) in Kolkota in on the look out for Narsi. Why this Don want Narsi and how Chari and Narsi, both estranged twins, meet forms the rest of the film.

Analysis

Adhurs is unpretentious masala film with emphasis on comedy. For the first time in his career, NTR does lengthy comedy episodes with Brahmanandam and has succeeded. Some really funny scenes and hilarious moments shot between NTR and Brahmanandam in the first half are the major asset to the movie in an otherwise regular commercial formula film. If you have seen films like EVV's Hello Brother, Rakesh Roshan's Krish and Akshya Kumar's Singh Is Kingg, you ma strive hard to find anything new in this film, but director Vinayak has tried put old wine in new bottle. After Krishna, he has once again put Brahmanandam in main focus.

Songs, NTR- Brahmandam comedy, dual characters (NTR) dancing in one frame, NTR's performance as Chari are appreciable. On the downside, post interval the film goes haywire. Entire second half missed the track and thereby lessened the impact of entertainment. Also the climax is a big letdown. Tacky visual effects in the climax and bad cinematography completely marred the movie in the end. Director Vinayak should also have taken care in the selection of heroines opposite NTR.

Performances

NTR appears in two different roles and he has given an extra dimension to the character of a timid Brahmin and steers it to the winning post. His dances are also good, despite injuring severely in an accident in the midst of film's shooting. The second role that that he has done is very typical of NTR's past films. Dialogue delivery has always been NTR's strength and he has used it best for the role of Chari with typical accent. NTR should hire a specialist in fashion to design his costumes if he wants to connect with the youth. His costumes in the film are pretty bad.

Brahmanandam gets lengthy role and like always he is the strength to the film.. In many scenes, it is actually Brahmanandam who brought zing.

The film lacks glamour quotient despite presence of Nayanathara as she looks older to NTR and their pairing seems very odd. Sheela is there to bare her skin and she does all the justice to it. In other important roles, Raghu Babu, Nasser, M.S and Mahesh Manjrekar shine. Music by Devi Sri Prasad is good but not that rocking. Of the songs, Chandrakala..Chandrakala and Adhurs Adhurs are the best.

Cinematography by Chota K Naidu is quite ordinary. Dialogues are really funny in some scenes. Director Vinayak has not delivered his best but has tried to balance the comedy with action to some extent. The film's screenplay in the second half doesn't have zing and climax is tacky.

Bottom-line

NTR and Brahmanandam's comedy is good. You can watch it for once for those hilarious moments between these two actors. But again, it is not perfect masala entertainer. On the whole, Adhurs is an okay movie.

Sourced from or Copied from

The film is mix of several films like Hello Brother, Krish (hero's father, a scientist, jailed in remote island by don), Singh Is King, and old NTR's movies like Gajadonga, etc.
